The University of Vienna will contribute its knowledge and expertise to the CARERS project in the development of the training program, based on its specific competence and knowledge in the fields of gerontology, geriatrics and nursing. In addition, the partner will exploit its knowledge and skills in ICT, developed in recent years within the University of Vienna’s ambitious programme on e-learning, as well as lead the dissemination of the project’s achievements through effective ways. The CARERS’ team is well-experienced in transdisciplinary research activities and has excellent skills in disseminating project results via local and European workshops and conferences.
The University of Vienna, Austria’s largest university employs 3,200 permanent scientific staff (research and teaching activities), with about 900 scientists involved in research activities through externally financed projects. The Faculty of Psychology, organised in four institutes, has 42 full-time and 106 part-time faculty staff as well as 14 fulltime researchers employed through research grants. The Institute of Clinical, Biological and Differential Psychology’s staff, covering teaching and research activities within the faculty’s research priorities, numbers 12/29 (full-time/part-time), with 5 additional researchers paid through research grants.
The institute’s faculty have broad expertise in biological, clinical and health psychology, especially in the fields of gerontology, disability and rehabilitation. Over the past decade, research projects have been funded either through national research foundations or through EU programmes. Research output has focussed on development in old age, including issues of dependency and disability. In addition, the institute has solid experience in the development of academic curricula as well as in the creation of professional training programmes. These experiences will be most useful to help achieve the goals of the CARERS project.
